The Marine Corps Takes Care of Its Own

Education

An Investment in Each Marine

Education and knowledge are not just highly valued in the workplace, they also help strengthen our nation's communities and economy. That's why the Marine Corps makes sure  every Marine has the ability to pursue their educational objectives. During Service: As a Marine, up to 100 percent of your education expenses may be paid by the federal government through programs like Tuition Assistance, the Post 9-11 GI Bill and the Marine Corps College Fund. Select Marines may earn a degree through the College Degree Program, which has both a four- and two-year option. Both options cover the cost of tuition, fees, textbooks and uniforms at certain selected colleges and universities.

In addition, Marine Corps Officers have the opportunity to earn Master's Degrees and law degrees under the Advanced Degree Program, Special Education Program and Funded Law Program, all of which are partially funded by the Marine Corps. After Service: These education benefits extend well beyond active duty and are awarded based on the number of years served and the specific education program in which you enroll. In some cases, the benefits may also be transferred to your spouse or child. Request more information and talk to a recruiter for specific questions about financial aid or educational opportunities in the Corps.

Tuition Assistance
  • Academic credit available for a graduate degree from an accredited college or university
  • Financial assistance toward tuition during active duty
Special Education Program
  • Study a curriculum tailored to the billet needs of the Marine Corps while maintaining pay status
  • Tuition and some related expenses covered by the Marine Corps
Advanced Degree Program (ADP)
  • Selected officers allowed 18 months away from the Marine Corps to attend graduate school full time
  • Officers receive regular pay and allowances
  • Officers pay their own tuition, but GI bill often will cover academic expenses

A FAMILY-FRIENDLY BROTHERHOOD

Every Marine family makes a commitment to our nation. In return, the Marine Corps makes a commitment to every Marine family. The Marine Corps provides many benefits and opportunities for families not found in the civilian world, including full health coverage, access to on-base medical facilities, free on-base housing, monthly housing allowances, low-cost mortgage loans and educational funding. In addition to the support Marine families offer each other, they have access to services such as day care options, family-friendly base amenities, family counseling, deployment support and relocation assistance. As much as service in the Corps ensures the future of our nation, it also creates a better future for those who serve. Ours is a family that takes care of its own, in every way.
