Inspiration Beyond the Front Line
The Mentors in Action program, developed by Staff Sergeant Juana Snell, is a nine-month mentorship program that connects Marine volunteers with elementary and middle school students. The program encourages excellence and discipline among the students, and is a platform where Marines can serve as positive role models for leadership, professionalism and dedication.
Engineering the Future
Through an engaging and dynamic workshop, Marines offered hands-on leadership and developmental training to collegiate student members of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). The training introduced the students to defining leadership traits and principles of the Marine Corps. The students participated in team-building exercises and obstacle courses that required them to apply their leadership lessons to solve problems. After training, the students went on to serve as counselors at NSBE's Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) camps.
Leadership 101: Swimming to Success
Coaches of the Marshall University women's swim team, concerned with the lack of leadership and cohesiveness in the team, turned to the Marine Corps for a crash course on the 14 leadership traits. Captain Eric Albright and Staff Sergeant Matthew Rogers conducted an interactive training session with the ladies that sparked interest, encouraged participation and fostered team growth.
