Marine Barracks - Washington, D.C.

Home of the Marine Corps

Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., at “8th and I,” is the oldest post of the Marine Corps. Its location on the corner of 8th and I Streets was personally selected by President Thomas Jefferson and Lieutenant Colonel William Ward Burrows, the first official Commandant of the Marine Corps. 
 
Many ceremonies and parades are held at Marine Barracks, including The Evening Parade every Friday during the summer. In addition to its ceremonial and historical role, 8th and I is the home of the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
