Enabling peacekeeping
and cooperation

Marine Corps units in Africa work with U.S., international and local forces to increase stability and security and to support humanitarian operations. Operations focus on enabling African forces to conduct peacekeeping operations, deterring arms proliferation and building security cooperation between nations.

Recent deployments include:

Africa: Across the continent, Marines provide leadership training to African peacekeepers as part of the African Contingency Operations and Training Assessments (ACOTA). The program trains peacekeeping forces in 19 participating nations, including Mali, Ghana and Senegal.

Nigeria: Marines provide Nigerian riflemen one-on-one training. Exercises here develop partnerships between the United States and Nigeria and strengthen Nigeria’s ability to combat terrorism within its borders.
