Partners in global security

The United States considers Europe a partner in both global security and enforcing trade policies. Marine Corps forces across the region help build this partnership and stand ready to protect the interests of the United States and our allies.

There are more than 1,500 Marines deployed across Europe.

Embassy Duty: Marines are entrusted with guarding the United States embassies around the world. They are the sole protectors of more than 100 embassies and consulates worldwide, including major U. S. embassies in Europe, such as Berlin, London, Paris, Madrid and Rome.

Jeremy Bess:
"I´m Sergeant Bess, Marine Security Guard at American Embassy, Rome, Italy. Marines guard embassies all around the world. Marines are well-known for being great warriors, great protectors. It just makes the - the embassy personnel feel a lot safer knowing that they have a Marine standing guard."

Anna Borg:
"The Marine, uh, security detachment is absolutely critical to this embassy. It´s something which gives us great, great comfort as we walk in. I think there's a very deep appreciation for Marines."

Jeremy Bess:
"The Marines security guard program right now is three years. I´ll receive orders and I could be anywhere in the world this time next year."
