Ground Combat Element: Purpose

Marines within this unit conduct ground operations to achieve objectives against formidable, well-equipped enemies. The Ground Combat Element exemplifies the physical strength and fierce combat capability for which the Marine Corps is known. 
 
Ground Combat Element forces are the only Marines that seize and occupy terrain. They are prepared to fight in every climate and location, including urban areas, woods, mountains and jungles.
