Ground Combat Element: Training
After graduating from recruit training, Ground Combat Element forces train extensively to prepare for their individual roles.
Marines that have been assigned an infantry military occupational specialty (MOS) report to Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry to learn MOS-specific training, including infantry tactics, mortars, anti-tank assault and light armored vehicle operations.
In addition, general training includes:
• Offensive and defensive tactics
• Scouting and patrolling
• Land navigation
• Basic communication
After completion of this training, Marines report to their first permanent duty station.
Non-infantry Ground Combat Element Marines report to the School of Infantry's Marine Combat Training Battalion to learn subjects including:
• Combat marksmanship
• Weapon systems including grenades and machine guns
• Combat movement including patrolling
• Land Navigation
• Advanced Marine Corps Martial Arts Program training
After completion of this training, Marines report to their assigned MOS schools for further training.
