Roles in the Corps: AAVs
The Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) Marines are responsible for operating and maintaining their vehicles and weapons systems. AAVs are tracked armored vehicles that can transport 24 Marines or 10,000 pounds of cargo in hostile land and water operations.
Editors note: On June 27, 2016, Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) crewman was renamed Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) Marine.
The mainstay of the Ground Combat Element is the infantry, but every Marine on the ground is ably supported by artillery, amphibious assault vehicles, tanks and combat engineers. See more roles on the Ground.
