Commissioning: The beginning of something bigger
Graduation day dawns bright at OCS but it is not the end. In fact, it's just the beginning of a noble journey as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Today the candidates will celebrate their accomplishments thus far.
These young candidates out here, many of whom will be called a Marine for the first time later on this afternoon at their commissioning ceremony, will never, ever be the same. It's something that changes their life forever, where they become more concerned about the Marine on their left and their right than they are about themselves. We're going to continue to sacrifice for our country and these young men and women have a sense, having gone through officer candidate school this summer, what that sacrifice entails. This is the greatest war fighting organization on the face of the earth. I'm proud of you, God bless you, and congratulations on your many, many accomplishments. Semper Fidelis.
It's an unbelievable feeling. It transforms you instantly.
It doesn't just train you how to be an officer, you become more of a man.
I feel proud every time a graduate at OCS. It's a part of me going with them.
Nobody gives it to you. You earn it. I've been very lucky with what's been given to me in my life. Being there at the end means a lot.
