Semper Fidelis

All-American Program

The Semper Fidelis All-American Program recognizes high school students who face life’s battles with the conviction and determination to succeed.

BATTLES WON ACADEMY

Proudly presented by the United States Marine Corps, the Semper Fidelis All-American Program recognizes high school students who face life’s battles with the conviction and determination to succeed. These students have turned obstacles into victories through drive and passion and will be recognized for their achievements at the exclusive Battles Won Academy held in Washington, D.C.

At the 2019 Battles Won Academy, the All-Americans and their mentors will experience:

Daily workouts – All-Americans will start each day with a regimen used by Marines to maintain peak physical and mental fitness.

Marine Corps Base Quantico – All-Americans will participate in a martial arts workshop led by expert instructors in addition to testing their physicality on a Marine Corps obstacle course and more.

Community Service – Marines will demonstrate to All-Americans the importance of fighting for the well-being of our communities through a community service event in coordination with ASA Action Sports.

Team-building exercise – All-Americans will test their skills in overcoming physical and mental challenges while working together as a unit during a fitness competition led by USA Wrestling and through a scavenger hunt held on the National Mall.

Tour of the National Archives – A private tour of the National Archives will introduce All-Americans to the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, illustrating how those who came before us have fought for the common cause of protecting our nation.

Whether she’s racing toward the finish line or giving back in her community, Anna Schilling of Lake Forest, Illinois, exemplifies the values of a Semper Fidelis All-American.

Anna’s mentor Darrin Madeley describes what sets Anna apart. “For Anna, it doesn’t matter what’s around, she’s going to get involved,” he said.
She’s going to be a part of it.”

As a junior at Lake Forest Academy, Anna excels in the classroom where she takes a full course load of AP classes while competing for her school on the tennis and track teams.

But Anna’s first passion is protecting the environment. She uses her fighting spirit to serve the Center for Conservation Leadership, an environmental education program for high school students.

Anna will continue to hone her fighting spirit and represent her community this summer at Battles Won Academy.

For Adam Paris, there is no challenge too great to tackle. Whether he’s training in the weight room for cross country or advocating for others within his community, Adam works hard to make a difference. As a Semper Fidelis All-American, he uses his fighting spirit to push through obstacles both on and off the field.

“Adam puts in a lot of time and he’s very passionate,” said Dustin Sluzewicz, Adams mentor and athletic trainer. He embodies the fighting spirit by taking on the challenges of succeeding academically and athletically while bettering his community.

The loss of his cousin is the driving force behind his community activism. Adam faced this hardship with a fearless determination to help others who are struggling through tough times. He draws on that same drive and willingness to excel in his studies at Rogers High School in Rogers, Minnesota.

Ben Burnham is committed to fighting for those around him whenever they’re in need. His commitment to his neighbors and his teammates demonstrates his fighting spirit and shows how he earned the title Semper Fidelis All-American.

As a leader on and off the field, Ben pushes himself and his peers to exceed their limits. Ben’s mentor, Andy Siegel, describes his selfless approach. “When you watch him on the field he’s trying to make other guys better,” said Andy, “He’s completely unselfish, an A-typical linemen, and cares more about the guy next to him than he cares about himself.”

When Hurricane Michael struck his home of Panama City, Florida, Ben did not hesitate to jump in to help friends and family who were affected, going door to door to ensure his neighbors were safe. The winds of the storm were strong, causing devastation throughout his town, but Ben’s will to fight for his community was much stronger.

For Sloan Aubrey, there is no obstacle too tough to conquer. Not only does she exhibit the fighting spirit through her determination on and off the field, she also exhibits conviction in her battles for others who don’t always have a voice.

While Sloan has always strived for academic and athletic excellence, she has certainly faced challenges.  In 2015, Sloan unexpectedly lost her brother in an accident. Nothing could have prepared her for the devastation of such a sudden loss, but it was her fighting spirt that helped her overcome this adversity.

“She goes about her day trying to lift everyone else up and I think that’s her strategy to get through hard times,” said Kyle Chambers, Sloan’s softball coach.

Dedicating her time to supporting her oldest brother, who has cerebral palsy, Sloan got involved with the Special Olympics. As a volunteer for the Special Olympics, Sloan strives to make change for those with special needs.

“To see the impact that Sloan is having on her community and the Special Olympics is really encouraging to others her age,” said Taylor Forney, Sloan’s mentor.
