SEMPER FIDELIS ALL-AMERICAN PROGRAM DETAILS

As a celebration of their success, selected Semper Fidelis All-Americans will receive an all-expenses paid trip to attend the Battles Won Academy, a multi-day experience held in Washington, D.C., July 9-13, 2020. There they will participate in daily workouts, an immersive experience on base on Marine Corps Base Quantico, a community service event, team-building outings, and a tour of our Nation’s Capital. The selected Semper Fidelis All-Americans will also have the opportunity to network with an elite circle of speakers from all walks of life and various industries who will share their inspiring stories of fighting and winning battles in their own lives. Speakers from past years have included Sage Steele, television anchor; James Conner, NFL running back; Becky Hammon, NBA coach; Ashton Eaton, Olympic decathlete; JW Cortes, Marine veteran, actor and philanthropist; Adeline Gray, Olympic wrestler; Verice Bennett, Marine Corps veteran and Silver Star recipient; and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

In recognition of the importance of building a support system to enable the success of the next generation, each All-American will be given the opportunity to invite a mentor of their choosing who holds a position within their school, sports team or a community organization to attend the event with them. Selected mentors may not be of familial relation to the student or currently reside with the student, must be 25 years of age or older and cannot be currently serving in the armed forces. All mentors are subject to a background check and vetting process prior to confirmation. Throughout the weekend’s activities, students and mentors will be required to step out of their comfort zones, and all attendees should be prepared to participate in a high level of physical activity. Finally, becoming a Semper Fidelis-All American will make students eligible for select scholarship opportunities only available to program participants.

Jordan showed promise early on by setting a goal to become an outside hitter on her varsity volleyball team. She fought hard to achieve this goal and won one of many battles through discipline and determination. Jordan’s fighting spirit is at the heart of her determination on the court.

As an All-American, Jordan joined her Semper-Fidelis squad in daily workouts, and an immersive Marine Corps experience at Battles Won Academy. On her first day she engaged in character building exercises such as martial arts training and basic training drills with a Marine Drill Instructor. With an unwavering will to succeed, Jordan met each obstacle by encouraging those around her to fight and push through.

THE PROMISE OF THE FIGHTING SPIRIT

    COMMITMENT TO A BETTER COMMUNITY

By connecting with fellow students, mentors and Marine leaders at Battles Won Academy, Jordan learned that the will to win can be applied to everyday battles. As a Semper Fidelis All-American alumnus, Jordan has dedicated her time to fighting for her community by volunteering at local food pantries, participating in the local Adopt-A-Family Easter program, and raising funds for Shoes for America. A team player with a drive to help those around her, Jordan was inspired by Battles Won Academy to start her own nonprofit community service program, Cardington for Choluteca. As the founder, Jordan helps collect supplies and travels to Central America to give back to the students attending agricultural school in Honduras and provide them with supplies for an after-school program.

As a leader, pushed forward as an agent for change in communities both at home and abroad. Deskins is the true embodiment of a Semper-Fidelis All-American.
